Tia William’s Seven Days in June: My Review

--

If you’ve never read this, you’re in for a treat…

Seven Days in June is a fiction enemies to lovers novel by Tia Williams (the same one who wrote The Perfect Find, which is now a Netflix movie starring Gabrielle Union).

But don’t judge any of her books by the movie, because you know the book is always better.

Anyway, the story follows latchkey kids, Eva Mercy and the guy she spent exactly one week with in June as a teenager, Shane Hall.

The story goes back and forth between past and present, weaving their tumultuous beginning with their happily ever after ending, in a way that captivates you and draws you into their world.

Both from families that didn’t quite take care of them the way they should, they’re both a little rough around the edges.

But that’s what draws them to each other.

Their brokenness and their desire to feel whole.

We watch as these two wounded pups find each other and slowly come to depend on each other in a world full of unending pain and constant disappointments.

Once they’re all grown up, they find each other yet again.

We can see up close just how mangled these two people are in beautifully human ways.

We see the rawness of emotions and pain.

We get to watch two lost souls find their way back to each other, the only family either of them truly knows (other than Eva’s daughter, who injects charm and humor into the story along the way).

It’s a mesmerizing story of heartache, pain, love lost, and love found.

I might read this again someday because the writing is exactly my kind of writing.

Tia Williams uses words in a such a beautiful way, I had to re-read and underline a lot.

Not to mention, I love it when a writer introduces me to new words (and she’s done this quite a few times throughout the book).

The way Williams uses the mechanics of writing to bring the story to life is both entertaining and inspiring (as a fiction writer myself).

The writing is witty, the banter between the two, exciting and immersive. The author wields her words like a paintbrush, providing amazingly vivid and detailed descriptions of everything important. I felt like I was in the room with a bunch of literati in the book party scene. And the characters are so well fleshed out.

The author has such amazing storytelling prowess, I literally didn’t wanna finish the book. I didn’t want it to end.

It starts with a bang and ends the same way.

Give yourself the pleasure of a front row seat to watching unconventional love unfold in all the right ways.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A++
